Project Title: “Human autonomic sensory neuron molecular-genetic maps at single cell resolution in health and disease”
The peripheral autonomic nervous system (ANS) regulates key functions such as breathing, digestion, and blood pressure control. However, the ANS has been difficult to study because of its complex organization and anatomy.
Dr. Williams will generate a neuron-by-neuron and gene-by-gene map of important peripheral autonomic hubs to understand the organization of the ANS at a molecular level, how that organization is impacted by disease, and ultimately how to better treat autonomic dysfunction.
