Brittany Krzyzanowski, PhD

2024 Clinical Research Training Scholarship in Parkinson’s Disease

Title/Institution: Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Barrow Neurological Institute

Project Title: “Association between elemental carbon exposure and Parkinson’s disease risk in Medicare beneficiaries”

Project Summary: Dr. Krzyzanowki’s project will study air pollution as a major risk factor for Parkinson’s disease. We know that high levels of pollution are strongly linked to increased rates of Parkinson’s and other neurodegenerative diseases, but we don’t fully understand why. This project will help us better understand the connection between specific types of air pollution and increased risk for Parkinson’s, which will help with environmental remediation and reducing health disparities in places that experience higher levels of pollution.

This research is funded by the Parkinson’s Foundation and the American Brain Foundation, in collaboration with the American Academy of Neurology.
