Thabele “Bay” Leslie-Mazwi, MD

Dr. Leslie-Mazwi serves as Chair of the Department of Neurology at the University of Washington. He is dual trained in Neurologic Critical Care and Interventional Neurology/Endovascular Neurosurgery. Following training he worked at Massachusetts General Hospital as a member of the faculty of the departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery, in the multi-specialty Neuroendovascular group. During that time, he did extensive system of care work within the Northeast. This work involved multiple hospitals, departments of health, EMS providers, and state legislators across six states. He left Boston to assume the Warren and Jermaine Magnuson Endowed Chair in Medicine for Neurosciences at the University of Washington. The University serves the varied populations of the WWAMI collaborative (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho), covering 27% of US geography.

Beyond his clinical and departmental duties he has appointments on various national committees, serves as Associate Editor or on the editorial board of several major cerebrovascular and specialty journals and has multiple societal roles in key societies in the field. He is involved in clinical trial oversight for a variety large, randomized, multicenter cerebrovascular trials. While his clinical research has a broad focus, it centers predominantly on acute endovascular stroke therapies. He is deeply passionate about improving care delivery across the spectrum of neurological disease.
