Donor-Advised Funds

You can give money—and accept a tax benefit—whenever you want. And when you are ready, you can direct a gift from your fund to the cause or organization of your choice.

A flexible, easy way to plan your charitable giving

More cost-effective than running a family foundation

Enjoy tax benefits right away, and decide where to give later

How a donor-advised fund works

  • You make an initial, irrevocable gift of cash or stock to fund the DAF.
  • The assets in your DAF grow tax-free.
  • You make recommendations on gifts to be made from your DAF.
  • Read our donor-advised fund policy here.

Open a Donor-Advised Fund With the American Brain Foundation

The American Brain Foundation offers the option to open your own donor-advised fund (DAF). Like a “community foundation for the brain,” you can open your DAF with the Foundation—then at a later date you can recommend gifts from the fund to any nonprofit organization with a connection to brain science research or education. However, you don’t have to open your donor-advised fund with the Foundation; we will accept gifts from any donor-advised fund you already have open.

Looking to donate to the American Brain Foundation from an existing donor-advised fund?
