Anna Goodheart, MD
Clinical Research Training Scholarship in Parkinson’s Disease
What We Know:
Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia are neurodegenerative diseases that affect millions of people and for which there are currently no cures. The cause of damage to neurons in these diseases is not well
understood, but we do know that a number of molecular changes are occurring within the cells. In the past, it wasn’t possible to study these types of cellular changes in living people. However, molecular imaging now gives us a tool in which we can visualize certain molecules in the brains of living patients, both with disease and without.
Our Plan to Help:
In this project, Dr. Goodheart is using molecular imaging to study changes in gene regulation in the brains of people with Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body diseases. Understanding these changes is crucial to the development of new treatments and finding a cure.
How You Can Help:
Donate to the American Brain Foundation to support Dr. Goodheart’s research that will lead to better treatments for patients living with Parkinson’s disease as well as Lewy body diseases.
Dr. Goodheart is the recipient of the 2019 Clinical Research Training Scholarship in Parkinson’s disease funded by the American Brain Foundation and Parkinson’s Foundation in collaboration with the American Academy of Neurology, and supported in part by a grant from AbbVie.
