Clinical Research Training Scholarship in Tourette Syndrome

Although tics, the cardinal symptom of Tourette Syndrome, are the most common movement disorder in childhood, there is still no highly effective treatment.

Dr. Zea Vera’s research will use EEG to study brain responses in typically-developing children and children with TS with the goal of identifying a biomarker of Tourette Syndrome and tic severity. A biomarker could then be used to help develop individualized non-invasive therapy for Tourette Syndrome.

This research is funded by the Tourette Association of America and American Brain Foundation, in collaboration with the American Academy of Neurology. Dr. Zea Vera is a Child Neurology Resident at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
